Scope This project was a major renovation and face lift for the public parking garages at the newly revamped Santa Monica Place. Parking Structures 7 & 8 contain 1600 parking spaces in two 6-story structures which were renovated, reconfigured, and seismically upgraded. The renovations include the addition of a decorative façade, a state of the art parking control system, new retail spaces, and artistic elements that are part of the City of Santa Monica civic art program. The artwork consists of a 6-story ceramic tile mural on Parking Structure 8 and a 30 foot tall balloon sculpture on Structure 7 constructed of 300 stainless steel balls. The decorative façade includes a custom “plank” rain screen and a specialty glazing system on each of the new stair cases. The garages were structurally upgraded and brought to current ADA requirements. Nine retail spaces were added at the sidewalk, featuring custom folding doors.
