Project Stories

Pioneering Workforce Development

As a trailblazer for workforce development in the construction trades, W.E. O’Neil is a proud partner of St. Paul Community Development Ministries (SPCDM), a south-side Chicago organization that facilitates pre-apprentice programs for Black men and women. Our involvement with SPCDM includes:

  • W.E. O’Neil staff instructing pre-apprentice training courses
  • Pro bono maintenance work at the SPCDM facility
  • Hiring SPCDM program candidates onto our construction projects
  • Facilitating subcontractor hiring of SPCDM candidates

On the Lincoln Common project, W.E. O’Neil sponsored Henry Lee, a carpenter apprentice who came through the SPCDM pre-apprentice program. Hear about Henry’s experience here:

Bricks That Touch The Heart

Children’s Memorial Hospital Brick Program

Children’s Memorial Hospital occupied the site of the Lincoln Common development for 104 years before moving to a new facility in downtown Chicago. When demolition of the hospital began in order to make way for the new development, families began reaching out to W.E. O’Neil and McCaffery Inc. about saving the building’s bricks as a tangible way to connect people to the hospital and their memories. By the time demolition was complete, W.E. O’Neil had distributed over 100 bricks to families whose lives had been impacted by the hospital. Read more about their stories here.

Testimonials

From our first walk through with W.E. O’Neil’s construction supervisor to final delivery, their team was professional and executed beautifully. We were able to lease nearly 500 units in six months in large part due to W.E. O’Neil delivering an exceptional product on-time and in process. Their high quality delivery of the residential towers surpassed our expectations. W.E. O’Neil’s craftsmanship and efficiency at turnover was best-in-class. I look forward to working with them in the future.
