W.E. O’Neil built this new LEED Gold theatre school and performing arts center for DePaul University on the urban residential Lincoln Park Campus in Chicago. The building is a five-level steel structure with glass and limestone skin and green roof.
Work included two theatres (a thrust Shakespearean theatre and a flexible black-box theatre), large scenery fabrication shops visible from the street, rehearsal and movement rooms, lecture hall, sound studio, and offices. Most walls, ceilings and floors are sound-rated. All work was completed in an operating University campus environment.
