The E-Pod Lab is a new laboratory building to conduct research and development for confidential space and defense department projects. The design of this facility includes unique structural details and a heavy interface between concrete, masonry, and structural steel trades. A cast-in-place parapet around the building perimeter could not be placed until the concrete over the metal deck had cured for 14 days.
The building has a 20’-0” diameter “fiberglass” dome installed atop a concrete “silo,” effectively creating an “observatory.” Electronic controls open and close the dome automatically.
Exterior features include two covered pedestrian walkways that join the new E-Pod Laboratory to the existing buildings on campus.
